Broken Ground Farm

This morning I got up earlier to try to get a head start. I hadn’t been up long before kids were waking up with me. Happy and Sunshine were up and going.

Last night we put boston butts in the smoker. This morning I checked them and pulled them out to cool. When they were cool enough to touch we pulled them apart. We set aside some for supper and then were able to put 3 quarts worth in the freezer. They were so good. We ate them as carnitas. We got the meat and to doggos got the bones.

The animals were all good this morning. We only got 3 eggs by the time we went out and 1 cracked. We fed it back to the chickens and they loved it.

Pushy piggies got to wear their scraps and food. They always act like they are starving and just can’t wait to get to the food.

We spent some extra time outside this morning after feeding animals. It was so cool today and it felt so good. We swung and played. Happy dug up some rocks. He found one he said was a square on one side and a heart on the other. Sunshine pretended to be a monkey that I bought from the zoo after the zookeeper (Happy) said it was okay. Lovey made the pigs a special acorn dessert. I don’t think he ever fed it to them. We will have to do that tomorrow.

I finished up a print to hold my tumbler in my Simple Modern bag.

I love having this to keep my drink upright in my bag. So helpful. I really like that we designed the pattern and printed it from home. Didn’t have to spend money or wait on a delivery.

I worked on laundry and dishes and the kids did their part to help with house work.

I noticed these pretty maypops blooms in the yard area today.

This afternoon Sunshine had an appointment in town. It went well.

When that ended we came home and ate the carnitas and went to work in the garden. The boys all dug dirt for the garden beds and got them all ready to plant. I went up the old paddocks and scooped pig poo for the compost pile. By the time I got to the active paddock, the pigs were coming to check out what I was doing. Oreo was kind enough to drop some fresh poo for me and the kids.

We gathered a decent amount and added it to the compost pile. That pile is huge right now because we cleaned out another mound bed. We will try to get it prepped for cover crops tomorrow.

Lovey and C.N.R. printed and built a 3D printed mouse today from a kit. It was pretty neat. Lovey really likes it.

The kids all danced some on the dance mat today.

It was a good day.
